The short version

This site sets no cookies and runs no advertising trackers. Taking the Ring Style Decoder sends us nothing.

We collect your email address only if you ask for the Decoder email series, together with a short summary of your result so the emails make sense. We don’t sell it, share it, or use it for anything else, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe.

Browsing the site

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics to count page views and see which articles people read.

Plausible sets no cookies, creates no persistent identifier, and does not track individuals across sites or sessions. What we see is aggregated: how many people read a page, roughly where in the world they were, which site sent them. We cannot identify you from it, and neither can Plausible. Plausible processes this data on servers in the European Union.

Server logs

Our web server records requests the way any web server does. IP addresses are truncated before being written to the log, so the record cannot be tied back to an individual device. Logs are kept briefly for security and diagnostics, then deleted.

Fonts, scripts and embedded content

Every font, stylesheet, script and image on this site is served from our own domain. We do not use Google Fonts, content delivery networks, social media embeds, video embeds, or hosted comment systems. Each of those would send your IP address to a third party simply for visiting a page. Plausible is the single exception, described above.

The Ring Style Decoder

Your answers are processed entirely in your browser. Your result is kept in the web address itself, after the # sign — and browsers never send that part of an address to a server. So taking the Decoder sends us nothing, and we cannot see your answers, unless you ask for the email series below.

The Decoder email series

What we collect

If you ask for the series, we keep:

  • your email address
  • a short summary of your result: the ring style, your budget band, whether you’re leaning lab-grown or natural, roughly when you’re proposing, the link to your result, and the one-line summary of your answers that the result page showed you
  • a record of when you confirmed your subscription, including the IP address you confirmed from, kept only as proof that you asked to receive the emails

No name, and nothing else.

Why, and on what basis

To send you the series you asked for, including a reminder about order-by dates. The basis is your consent, which you give by requesting the series and confirming it from the email we send you. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email. Withdrawing doesn’t affect emails already sent.

What the emails don’t do

They contain no tracking pixel, so we can’t see whether you opened one. Links are not rewritten to record your clicks.

Some links in the emails are affiliate links to retailers, explained on our disclosure page. If you follow one, the retailer’s own privacy policy applies from that point.

Where it’s kept, and who handles it

Your details are stored on our web host’s servers in Switzerland, operated by Cyon GmbH, which handles them on our behalf and may not use them for anything else. The emails are sent from the same host. Your details do not leave Switzerland, whose data protection law the European Union recognises as adequate.

How long we keep it

  • Never confirmed: deleted after 30 days.
  • Unsubscribed: we stop emailing you immediately and delete your details within 30 days, keeping only your email address on a do-not-contact list so it is never emailed again by mistake.
  • Otherwise: deleted 12 months after you signed up. The series exists to help with one purchase, not to keep you on a list.

Links to other sites

Articles and emails link to jewellery retailers, some through affiliate links explained on our disclosure page. Once you click through, you are on their website and their privacy policy applies. Retailers generally use cookies and tracking, including the affiliate cookie that records you arrived from us. We have no control over what they collect and no access to it.

What we don’t do

We don’t sell or share personal data, run advertising, use remarketing, or build profiles. There are no accounts on this site.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, and withdraw your consent at any time — write to contact@theringbrief.com, or use the unsubscribe link in any email.

If you think we’ve handled your data wrongly, you can complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, or to the data protection authority where you live.

Changes

If what we collect or how we use it changes, we update this page before the change takes effect, not after.
